Now Might Just Be a Great Time for a Resort-Only Visit to Walt Disney World

As is likely the case with many of you, I’m beginning to get a bit stir-crazy over here. I’ve been going out a little bit to pick up my grocery store orders, but that’s about all. I’ve worked from home for years now – ten to be exact – so being required to quarantine wasn’t the biggest deal ever for me. When this whole COVID-19 pandemic started, I hadn’t even completely gotten over being super sick myself since a week or so before Christmas, so I wasn’t looking to rush out anyways.

To say I’m leery of heading to Walt Disney World as soon as the theme parks reopen is a little bit of an understatement. I’ve mentioned on a couple of the DIS Unplugged shows that I’m likely going to wait and see how things go and what other guests have to say before I head down myself.

Here’s the thing, the Disney Vacation Club Resorts are opening on June 22nd and I have some vacation points that need to be used by the end of this year since our daughter’s graduation celebration ended up getting cancelled. We had family coming in from Seattle and the whole nine yards – POOF! All cancelled.

This morning, my not-as-in-love-with-Disney-as-I-am husband comes walking by my office and says that he misses being at Walt Disney World and would love to head down to one of the Resorts for a couple of nights just to be somewhere different for a few days and get out of this house.

Well, as you may have just imagined, I hopped on the website to check some availability faster than I ever have in my life to find that we could basically choose a studio in any of the DVC Resorts we wanted for the two nights I was looking at for my family of 4.

You might remember on a previous episode of The DVC Show, I said I thought that Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge was a fantastic choice for a Resort-only stay because of all the things there are to do there such as check out the animals out on the Savanna – especially at nighttime, soak in the sun at the incredible pool areas, and most of all, to just R-E-L-A-X; not to mention all of the amazing dining options there are right in the Resort so we won’t have to run all over the place. We have to fit a visit to Chicken Guy! in, though, because we’ve never eaten there and we’re both dying to.

We have been chatting all morning about having lunch at Sanaa and dinner at Jiko (to have their AMAZING bread service you see at the top of this post) and most certainly having breakfast at Boma, one of our absolute favorites. I’m so curious to see how the buffet will be handled with social distancing in place. While I am unable to make Advance Dining Reservations just yet, I am hoping to secure our favorites as soon as Disney launches their new reservation system. I actually doubt that any of the dining locations will be booked up, but that will remain to be seen.

So, are you excited to get back to Disney even if you can’t enjoy a visit to the theme parks just yet, or are you holding out to visit after the parks begin reopening? Please share in the comments below or head over to our Facebook page and join the discussion!
