Everywhere you turn at Walt Disney World, there’s another food or snack option to enjoy. You watch podcasts that suggest what to eat or what not to, you read articles about upcoming releases of specialty treats, and it all sounds good until you’re standing in your favorite park or resort trying to figure out how to use those Disney Dining Plan credits or well-earned vacation dollars.

It’s with this in mind that I’d like us to grab a seat at a virtual table, perhaps one just outside of the Trolley Car Cafe in Hollywood Studios, and talk about our favorite treats, apps, entrees, and desserts that we find to be worthy of a try while on a Walt Disney World vacation. If it’s okay with you, I’ll pop in here from time to time and share one item that I’ve enjoyed and think that you might, too. I have my virtual Starbucks favorite in hand (a half-caf Black and White Mocha with soy milk and whip, please), so grab yours (and please share in the comments section below what it is because I’m always on the lookout for a new drink to try), and pull up a chair.

Megan, a viewer of the Disney Dining Show, emailed me recently and asked us to do a show based on how Sean and I would rate the cheese boards on WDW property. I love that idea! I’m not sure that we’ll be able to do it on the show, but it inspired me to share about my #1 cheese board today (spoiler alert…ha ha). Actually, technically, it’s a cheese cart.

I’ve gushed about the cheese cart at Topolino’s Terrace at Disney’s Riviera Resort on the dining show before. It is top-notch, and is more of an experience than you will get with other cheese boards at Walt Disney World. At $18, its price tag is comparable with other cheese offerings that you’ll find on the Disney menus; but there’s something that makes this one stand head and shoulders above the others.

We reviewed dinner at Topolino’s Terrace on opening night. If you’d like to read about our meal, click here to read my review. Our server, Christopher, was stellar. No joke. He knew the menu and dishes inside and out, and made us feel right at home during our time there. When the cheese cart was wheeled by our table, we asked immediately if we could partake. Technically, the House Fromage Board is on the dessert menu, but it can be requested as an appetizer as well.

After a few moments, Christopher wheeled the cart over and proceeded to tell us the origins and history of each of the cheeses. He explained the type of cheese each variety was, and then cut fresh chunks and slices off for us. The artisanal cheeses are served with mostarda, house-made preserves, and Topolino Terrace’s thin, crispy, and sesame seed-studded lavosh wafers.

The angels sang. I promise. The entire experience, from the explanations of the cheeses right down to the last bite that I took, was wonderful. If you have the Disney Dining Plan that includes table service credits, you also have a dessert credit included in that meal. The cheese board would be an excellent expenditure of that credit. If you’re using cash, and you’re already at Topolino’s, go for it. And then please let me know what you thought.

Topolino’s Terrace is a signature dining experience, meaning that it will require 2 table service credits if you’re on the dining plan. It’s definitely a special occasion restaurant. That being said, I plan on getting the cheese cart/board/heaven-on-earth again, and it’ll make that special occasion even more so.
