Disney World is a busy place!
EPCOT
From ride closures to saying goodbye to famous lands in the parks, there’s a lot of change going on! While Disney World is always changing, one thing that stays the same is the Cast Members, but how can you make sure they don’t hate you? We’re breaking it all down for your next trip to Disney!
If you don’t know, Disney employees are called Cast Members! It’s a term that started way back in the time of Walt Disney and it’s the company’s official name for anyone who works for them. For many Disney fans, it’s a dream to one day become a Cast Member. No matter what your role is within the company, from the CEO to the quick service team, everyone is a Cast Member.
A Cast Member in Hollywood Studios
Cast Members make the Disney World go-round, but how can you make sure the Cast Members don’t hate you on your trip? You might be thinking, “They won’t hate me!” Well, the DFB team has several former Cast Members on our team and if we’re being honest with you (which we always are), we have had moments where we didn’t have the most flowery feelings toward every guest in the theme park.
Main Street, U.S.A.
We have 7 key ways to help you stay in the Cast Member’s good graces. First up, is remember to be patient! This might seem a bit too simple but you’d be surprised how hard this can be at times. When you’ve not eaten enough, or had enough water, it’s 100 degrees outside, and you’ve walked 40,000 steps, patience doesn’t always come easily.
Crowds in Disney World
It might feel like you’re at the end of your rope (and you might be) but while Cast Members make Disney magic, they aren’t actually magical. Sometimes you just need to have a bit of patience while they try to help you in any way they can. Another way to help yourself and the Cast Member out is to have your things ready when it’s your turn!
Disney Princess autograph set
This could be anything like your wallet, your autograph books, or your park ticket. There are a lot of lines in the Disney parks to get food, get into a ride queue, or meet your favorite characters. It’s true we like to avoid lines when possible but it’s not always possible to skip every line. So while you’re spending time in line, make the most of it! If you’re waiting for your food, get your wallet ready. If you’re waiting to have a character sign your autograph book, have your page ready before it’s your turn.
Mickey Mouse
This is going to help your process move quickly and it’s also going to avoid slowing down the lines behind you which will help the Cast Members avoid any extra disgruntled guests. The same can also be said about getting discounts if you have them. If you have any Disney discounts have your MyDisneyExperience app ready with your pass, and get your ID out to show.
Disney World Annual Pass
It is a requirement to show your active pass and your ID to access discounts for merchandise, dining, or parking, but sometimes Cast Members might not ask every single time you use it. Don’t rely on them not asking for it, if Cast Members do ask for it, don’t get frustrated! They’re just doing their jobs. Having your discount and IDs ready will help move lines, and long and cut down on frustration for everyone involved.
You can also get Disney Visa discounts
Next up, another secret to avoiding issues with Cast Members is to be accepting when they say no. Cast Members will tell you no, this is just something that’s going to happen. It could be for a number of reasons but if they’re telling you no, take their word for it. Speaking from experience, if they can help you or give you the answer you want, they will! If they are telling you no, it’s because that is the answer, even if it’s not what you want to hear. Don’t attempt to argue and things will be okay.
Merchandise Cast Member!
This is also a great time to remember that Cast Members don’t make the rules. Specifically, the theme park Cast Members you’ll be speaking with on your vacations don’t make the rules! I’m sure if you can get ahold of Bob Iger, the Disney CEO, he’s gonna make some of the rules, but that’s not really the Cast Member we’re talking about here.
Hi!
This secret to making sure Cast Members don’t hate you is to remember they don’t set the rules, decide the prices, or set the hours. The Cast Members you’re speaking with in the parks also don’t love that the Avocado Margarita is $20 but it isn’t up to them to set the prices. They also can’t make the park stay open later or decide the height requirements for the rides. Yelling at them won’t make your kiddo taller or lower the height requirement.
Rise of the Resistance Height Requirement
Before we start yelling or fussing in the parks, it’s also a good time to remind yourself the Cast Members might be having a bad day. This is their daily life and while it is fun and magical, it’s also hard work! The theme parks see thousands of people a day, and the Cast Members are the ones helping each and every one of them. We all can understand that no matter where you are in the world, not every single day is a good day.
Magic Kingdom Cast Members
So while we hope that you have super excited and happy Cast Members to help you, if one is a bit short with you or doesn’t come across like you think they should, take it in stride and remember you’re on vacation! It wasn’t the best interaction, but yelling at them isn’t going to make it better. This point also takes us to our last secret which is always be kind.
We love Cast Members!
Kindness goes a long way and it’s free to give. We appreciate the Cast Members so much for making the magic every day in the theme parks. Without them the rides wouldn’t run, the Dole Whips wouldn’t be served, and we couldn’t buy our newest pin obsessions. Being kind is the least we can do to show them how much we appreciate them for making our dream days come to life.
Thank you!
This is just a few ways to make sure the Cast Members don’t hate you, and it’s going to make your vacations even better! Don’t forget to keep following DisneyFoodBlog for more Disney tips and tricks.
