CONFIRMED: Netflix TV Series CANCELED After Short Run on Streaming Service

Television shows come and go, but on streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, it seems like they come and go…a LOT. New shows are getting canceled after just a season or two, and we’ll admit it has given us some commitment issues.

Netflix seems to be one of the streaming services that cancels shows the most often, and recently, we’ve seen popular shows get the axe, like Dead Boy DetectivesRatched, The Brothers Sun, and more.  Well, another Netflix series is going to be ending after its second season — Netflix has confirmed that The Sandman will end after season 2.

Planning guide for the ultimate Disney vacation

Netflix announced that The Sandman will return in 2025 for its second and final season. Morpheus, aka Dream (Tom Sturridge), will go on one more journey, and Netflix is promising it will “be a family affair.” Expect to meet some new characters in Dream’s family, too, when the second season wraps everything up.

Returning this season as members of the Endless family include Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, and Donna Preston as Despair. Season 2 will bring in some of Dream’s other siblings, including Destiny (Adrian Lester), Delirium (Esmé Creed-Miles), and The Prodigal (Barry Sloane).

The Sandman series has always been focused exclusively on Dream’s story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season,” showrunner Allan Heinberg told Netflix. “We are extremely grateful to Netflix for bringing the team all back together and giving us the time and resources to make a faithful adaptation in a way that we hope will surprise and delight the comics’ loyal readers as well as fans of our show.”

This news comes after serious accusations have come to light against Neil Gaiman, the author of The Sandman comic book and co-creator and executive producer of the Netflix series. As a result, other adaptations of Gaiman’s work have been canceled or put on hold. Amazon’s final season of Good Omens, based on a novel by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, will continue without Gaiman’s involvement.
