Why You Shouldn’t Sleep on Cape May Cafe Character Dining in Disney World

Are you ready for a party?! We’re not talking just any old party, either.

It’s time for Minnie’s Beach Bash!

Slowly but surely, we’ve seen the return of character dining to Disney World. Just recently we got to hang out with Winnie the Pooh and Friends at Crystal Palace, plus Lilo, Stitch, and more are back at ‘Ohana too. But now, it’s time to celebrate because Minnie’s Beach Bash Breakfast has returned to Cape May Cafe, and we’re reviewing it all!

Cape May Cafe is located in Disney’s Beach Club Resort which is just a short walk away from EPCOT! The restaurant serves up all-you-care-to-enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But — during breakfast, you can now dine with Minnie and pals once again at Minnie’s Beach Bash Breakfast! We were there for the return of characters and to find out if this buffet is still worth your time (and money!). So, let’s check it out!

Atmosphere

Disney’s Beach Club Resort is themed after, well, a beach hotel, but more specifically an early 20’s Atlantic beach hotel.

But, we’re heading over to Cape May Cafe to check out the return of Minnie’s Beach Bash Breakfast!

You’ll find a light and airy feel inside Cape May Cafe, with plenty of nods to old beachside activities and entertainment.

We love this adorable display of beach umbrellas

…and there are some croquet accents in here as well!

You’ll find plenty of beachy artwork on the walls too.

But, enough about the decor…let’s find out which characters will be joining us for breakfast!

Characters

Of course, you can’t have Minnie’s Beach Bash without, well, Minnie! Here she is in her most adorable seaside garb.

Minnie!

Goofy is here too, donning a pretty sweet bucket hat if you ask us!

Daisy came over to say hi as well, giving off some seriously relaxed beach vibes…

…and Donald came over and sat with us for a bit! We complimented his tropical shirt and straw hat.

We got to see the characters several times during our meal, as they came around more than once. If you’re looking for a LOT of character interaction, Cape May Cafe might just be the place to find it!

Menu

Cape May Cafe serves an all-you-care-to-enjoy buffet menu full of delicious breakfast favorites! Since characters are back, the price has gone up and is now $45 per adult and $29 per child.

There are also quite a few specialty drinks and coffees available, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Coca-Cola Products, coffee, tea, juice, and water are all included with the cost of the buffet.

And now onto the main event — let’s see what we’re having for breakfast at Minnie’s Beach Bash!

Eats

We started off with the Salted Caramel Beach Buns that were brought to our table — note that this is a buffet, but you do have a server for whatever you might need like drinks and paying your bill. They also drop off this delicious basket of delights to your table.

These were perfectly sticky and sweet, and were super moist thanks to the vanilla sauce they’re served with. The flakey salt adds a good depth of flavor that helps kick these buns up a notch.

For the rest of the meal, we had to get up from our seat. But, no complaints here as the buffet looked pretty promising with items like Mickey waffles, chocolate chip pancakes, and French toast.

There are also a few vegetable options like asparagus and potatoes if you like a little of either in the morning.

You’ll find plenty of options for carnivores as well, like sausage

bacon and eggs

…and freshly carved ham!

How adorable are these hash brown cups with egg?

There are also comfort foods like oatmeal and grits on the buffet…

…and a few fruit offerings as well, like this fruit and marshmallow salad and parfaits.

There’s fresh fruit on the menu as well! We spotted grapes, strawberries, and pineapple.

In addition to the Salted Caramel Beach Buns, there are regular rolls available too.

Rolls

We filled up our plate and made our way back to the table to chow down. We started with a breakfast buffet staple: the potatoes. These were your basic breakfast potatoes cooked with peppers and onions, and boy did they hit the spot. The peppers add a great flavor, and the potatoes were well-seasoned and not overly salty.

Our plate!

We also check out the chocolate chip pancakes. You might think that there’s no way to mess up chocolate chip pancakes, but these weren’t our favorite. They were pretty thick and heavy on the flour, which was only remedied by the amount of chocolate chips in ours.

Pancakes

No Disney breakfast buffet is complete without Mickey waffles, and these were excellent. Super fluffy and warm on the inside, but perfectly crispy on the outside. And when paired with syrup, you really can’t go wrong!

The hash brown cup was another item we were excited to try, but it ended up being one of our least favorite items we tried. It wasn’t seasoned enough or hardly at all, and the outside was tough while the inside was dry. There was so much potential here — cheese, potatoes, eggs, chives — but this one fell flat for us.

Mickey waffle!

We decided to check out some of the fresh fruit, and were glad we chose pineapple. It was really sweet and served in big chunks that stayed nice and juicy — we would definitely recommend it if you like starting your day with fruit!

As far as meats go, we tried both the ham and the bacon. The bacon was your typical Disney bacon, not too salty and on the chewier side rather than having any sort of crunch or crispness. We definitely didn’t hate it!

The ham was just as delicious — salty, smoky, and sweet without being too overpowering. It was also pretty moist and tender which can be difficult to find with ham that sits under a heat lamp.

Close-up

And last, but not least (but also not the best) we gave the asparagus a try. Asparagus can be a gamble, because you never know if it will be tender of if you’ll be sawing through it like Paul Bunyan. Luckily, most of ours was tender and a little chewy but not too hard to eat. It was salty and buttery — simple but still good.

Nosh or Not

You should book a reservation for Minnie’s Beach Bash Breakfast if…

  • You’re looking for a standard buffet breakfast that has a lot to offer and several crowd-pleasing dishes.
  • You want a LOT of character interaction — and we mean a lot. We almost felt like we were missing things by getting up and going to the buffet!
  • You’re heading to EPCOT for the day and want a character meal before walking over to the park.

You should skip Minnie’s Beach Bash Breakfast if…

  • You’re looking for a quick meal that will get you to the parks by rope-drop.
  • You don’t care about dining with characters or interactions.
  • You don’t think you or your party would eat enough to justify the buffet cost.

Overall

If you’re looking for a solid breakfast buffet with a TON of character interaction, consider giving Minnie’s Beach Bash Breakfast at Cape May Cafe a try! But, if character meals aren’t your thing and you don’t want to shell out $45 for breakfast — this probably isn’t the spot for you!
