If you’ve been a Disney World fan for all of about five minutes, you probably know that the parks are constantly changing.

Not only that, but change can happen a lot more quickly than you might think. In the past five years, we’ve seen new attractions, restaurants, skip-the-line services, price increases, and more. With so much change happening in such a short period, it’s only a matter of time before we might look at Disney World and hardly even recognize it. We might not be able to see the future, but we can take a look at what the next five years look like for Disney World!

Attractions

We already know that Disney is in the middle of bringing two new attractions to the parks with TRON: Lightcycle Run in Magic Kingdom and Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana at EPCOT, but what else might the future hold? TRON is scheduled to open in spring 2023, with Moana following later that same year.

We’re also expecting a new EPCOT fireworks show, Figment meet and greet, and Hatbox Ghost meet and greet at Disney World in 2023. And in 2024, we’ll finally get to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

But, just because something hasn’t already been announced doesn’t mean it isn’t in the works or couldn’t happen within the next five years. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind was announced in August 2017, and less than five years later the attraction opened in May 2022 — so big things could still be coming (that Disney is just keeping to themselves).

Dining

In the past few years, we’ve seen new restaurants open up like Space 220, Steakhouse 71, Topolino’s Terrace, Connections Eatery, and more. We already know about quite a few new dining locations set to open in the coming years.

Woody’s Roundup Rodeo BBQ is scheduled to open later in 2022, and The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers will be coming to Disney’s BoardWalk sometime in 2023. Summer House on the Lake will join the already impressive Disney Springs lineup in 2023 as well.

But, what good do all of these new dining locations do if the beloved Disney Dining Plan doesn’t come back?! Fear not, as after an incredibly long silence on the plan, Disney announced that the Dining Plan WOULD RETURN! They left out quite a few details, though, like just when it might come back — and they haven’t said anything since.

What could that dining plan look like? We’re not sure — but when the parks closed due to the pandemic in 2020 (the last time we saw the Dining Plan) there were four different package options. These were the Disney Quick-Service Dining Plan, the Disney Dining Plan, the Disney Dining Plan – PLUS, and the Disney Deluxe Dining Plan.

Given that Disney has a habit of raising prices semi-frequently and the length of time the plan has been away, it could be that the Disney Dining Plan is being totally revamped (and will probably be more expensive, too.).

Price Increases

Speaking of price increases, Disney has a tendency to raise prices on just about everything. October 2022 brought cost hikes to Disney Genie+, special experiences like lightsaber and droid building, private PhotoPass sessions, merchandise, and hundreds of menu items across Disney World went up in price as well.

Given that we see price increases pretty regularly in Disney World, chances are that pattern is going to continue over the next five years. We’ve already seen hidden price increases on park tickets for 2023, and Disneyland tickets just got a price increase too.

Disney World is expensive and that likely isn’t changing anytime soon. But, the earlier you start planning your trip the better prepared you might be for price increases and hidden fees that might add up. Park Pass Reservations

When Disney World first introduced the Park Pass Reservation System after the parks first reopened in 2023, park capacity was limited to only 25%. It made sense at the time, and many guests figured the system would only be in place while the pandemic was raging. But, we quickly found out that wasn’t quite the case.

Though the parks are essentially back to normal operations and capacity isn’t quite as limited — Park Pass Reservations have stuck around. Disney is still trying to control the number of people that visit the parks each day and how the crowds are spread out amongst each park. Is this something that would stick around five years from now?

For now, we know that they’ll likely stick around through early 2024 based on what we’ve seen on the Disney World website.

What Could Happen

At the end of the day, we only know what Disney has shared — the rest we can just guess based on what we’ve seen in the past. New lands were mentioned at the D23 Expo, so it sounds like a re-theme could be on the way for Animal Kingdom’s DinoLand. Disney even shared that a Coco or Encanto land could come to Magic Kingdom in the future.

Will all of this come to fruition over the next five years? Only time will tell, but we do know that based on what we’ve seen in the past — there’s a whole lot of excitement coming our way. New attractions, lands, and experiences are being dreamed up by Imagineers every day (and someone in the Pricing Department is figuring out how to charge you more for them).
