NEWS: Flood Advisory Now in Effect for Disney World County

If you’re heading to Disney World, you need to be prepared for intense heat, weather situations that could even lead to funnel clouds, and heavy rain that could create flooding.

Bring those ponchos!

We’ve seen flooding impact the parks and stores at times in the past and now a flood advisory is in place that could impact your trip.

WESH 2 News reports that a flood advisory is in effect for Orange County, Florida, one of the counties within which Disney World is located.

The advisory is in place until 5:15PM ET.

Rainstorm in Disney World

According to the advisory, minor flooding could take place in low-lying and poor drainage areas. The Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms, which is what prompted this advisory. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain has already fallen, and an additional 1 to 2 inches is expected in the area.

The advisory indicates that individuals should be aware of their surroundings and not drive on flooded roads.

Flooding

Thunderstorms in Orlando are also creating some gusty winds, so be mindful of that.

Here’s a look at the weather in the area.

What can you do if you’ll be in Disney World during a strong rainstorm? How can you be prepared for an upcoming trip? Here are a few steps you should take to make sure you’re ready for the weather:

  1. Check the weather ahead of and DURING your trip. Weather forecasts can change often, so you’ll want to regularly check your weather apps for the latest information.
  2. Pack those ponchos and umbrellas. Even if the forecast shows a relatively low chance of rain, it’s best to be prepared. If you don’t want to carry the items with you, consider renting a locker to at least have them in the park. Or leave enough room in your budget to buy ponchos in the park if necessary.
  3. Pack water-friendly shoes or extra socks. There are few things worse than sloshing around a park with soaking wet socks and shoes, so consider packing water-friendly shoes or extra socks so everyone can stay comfortable and dry.
  4. Watch for ride closures. Some Disney World rides can close when severe weather strikes. Try to knock out those outdoor rides earlier in the day so you can beat the storms.
