The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention monitors the risk level of COVID-19 in many countries across the globe so you can asses the risks if you’re going to travel internationally. We’ve seen many countries move around on the list over the past several months, and now, more destinations have been added to some of the different risk levels by the CDC.

Three tropical islands and one Middle Eastern country were moved into the “moderate” risk category (or Level 2) for COVID-19, according to CNN. They are: Fiji, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Sint Maarten, and Kuwait.

Before now, Sint Maarten was listed in the “unknown” risk category, which is when there’s not enough data to assess the level of risk. The other 3 locations were actually moved down from “high” risk (or Level 3) into the moderate risk category.

Over half of the countries monitored by the CDC are in the Level 3 “high” risk category, which is now the highest category in terms of risk levels. Level 3 is for locations that have had more than 100 cases per 100,000 residents within the past 28 days. No new locations were added to Level 3 this week.

Level 2 means there were 50 to 100 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents in the past 28 days, and Level 1 is for a place that’s had 49 or fewer new cases per 100,000 residents in the last 28 days.

Four countries were moved into Level 1 this week: Cape Verde, Mauritania, Morocco, and Namibia. We’ll keep you updated on more changes made to the list if they occur.
