An Updated Look at ‘Moana’ Attraction Construction in Disney World

Disney World is quite the construction zone at the moment!

EPCOT

There’s the ongoing TRON coaster construction over in Magic Kingdom, plus construction at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, where a new hotel building will be located, and even construction at Disney’s BoardWalk where two new restaurants will be located. All of these projects pale in comparison, however, to the MASSIVE construction site in EPCOT. This park is getting some major new features, and today, we’re bringing you the latest updates on one of the biggest changes coming to EPCOT.

The EPCOT construction, affectionately referred to as the EPCOT transformation, includes changes like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, the new Creations Shop, Connections Cafe and Eatery, and more. Those projects have already been completed, but what about the ones that are still in progress?

Another big facet of the transformation is the new walkthrough attraction Journey of Water — Inspired by MoanaThis attraction will teach guests all about the water cycle with elements and characters from Moana. We’ve been bringing you updates on this attraction as construction progresses, so let’s take a look at what’s going on now!

We’ve been seeing rock work in this area for some time now, but more continues to be added, and it’s really starting to look more built up.

‘Moana’ construction

Based on the concept artwork that Disney has revealed for this attraction, this rock work looks like it could be the location for some of the water fountains and other water features that guests will be able to view as they walk through the area.

We also noticed that some shaded overhangs were being built in the area, as well. Disney has mentioned previously that the attraction will feature covered areas where guests will be able to get some shade, so these structures may be a part of that, or they may be something different entirely. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as construction progresses and more features are added.

More construction

The EPCOT transformation doesn’t end with the Moana attraction. There’s still a lot more to be done. The park will be getting a brand new festival center called CommuniCore Plaza, with CommuniCore Hall (an event space for festivals) located inside of the plaza. CommuniCore Hall will also be home to the new Mickey and Friends character meet-and-greet.

And perhaps the most exciting part of all, the glowing sidewalks are making their return to EPCOT! The glowing sidewalks were lights embedded in the pavement at EPCOT that were taken out when construction began in the park several years ago. As part of the EPCOT transformation, they will be returning in a new and improved way. There’s a lot to look forward to for the future of EPCOT, so make sure to stay tuned to DFB for the latest updates!
