REVIEW: Disney World’s 5(!) New Ice Cream Flavors Are Sweet, Sour, and Spicy!

The summer heat has definitely hit Disney World, which means it’s the perfect time for some ICE CREAM!

Salt & Straw

Salt & Straw is the new ice cream shop that opened in Disney Springs earlier this year. They’re known for serving up some unique flavors (deviled egg ice cream, anyone??) including limited-edition flavors that rotate out each month.

Now that July is here, we headed out to Salt & Straw to check out their latest monthly offerings. There are five limited-edition flavors this month, and they’re all part of the Berries, Berries, Berries Series.

July Salt & Straw Flavors

First up, we got a scoop of the Birthday Cakes & Blackberries and a scoop of the Wild-Foraged Berry Slab Pie.

Berries, Berries, Berries Flavors

The Birthday Cakes & Blackberries is made with hunks of rainbow-sprinkled birthday crumble and blackberry jam swirl throughout a double-vanilla ice cream. We really enjoyed this flavor, it didn’t taste too much like birthday cake to us although it did have pieces of actual cake inside. The blackberry shined through the most, which gave it a refreshing and sweet flavor. Just be warned, the blackberries may get stuck in your teeth!

The Wild-Foraged Berry Slab Pie has wild berry pie filling and bits of double-baked pie crust mixed in a salted vanilla ice cream. This flavor totally tasted like pie in ice cream form, and the bits of pie mixed in definitely added to that effect! We got a ton of berry flavor, which made this one super refreshing as well. This was probably our favorite flavor of the bunch and if you’re a pie fan, you’ll probably love it too!

Wild Forged Berry Slab Pie

Next up, we got scoops of the Goat Cheese Marionberry Habanero, Boysenberry Oat Milk Sherbet, and Besharam’s Yogurt Lassi with Raspberries.

July Monthly Flavors

We weren’t a fan of the Goat Cheese Marionberry Habanero flavor. The goat cheese flavor was strong and didn’t mix well with the slight berry flavor, plus we got a spicy kick at the back of our throat that made for a strange combination overall. We wouldn’t get this one again, but if you’re a huge goat cheese fan it might be worth a taste since that was the most dominant flavor by far.

Goat Cheese Marionberry Habanero

The Boysenberry Oat Milk Sherbet is a vegan option made with boysenberries and a touch of oat milk. We loved the pairing of the oat milk and boysenberry flavors and it had a definite summery feel to us! The consistency was slightly icy as is the case with most sherbet. It wasn’t too sweet and could be a great option if you’re looking for a less-intense treat to help cool you down!

And finally, we also tried the Besharam’s Yogurt Lassi with Raspberries. This flavor is made with rosewater and cardamom ice cream with ripples of raspberry jam and toasted whole cumin seeds. The yogurt came though super strong in this one, so it had a pretty pungent and sour flavor overall. The raspberry flavor was super light, we mostly just tasted the yogurt. We weren’t a fan of this flavor overall, if you absolutely love yogurt it might be for you, otherwise, it’s probably worth skipping.

Besharam’s Yogurt Lassi with Raspberries

And that does it for the July flavors from Salt & Straw. There were some real winners for us (hello, Birthday Cakes & Blackberries, Boysenberry Oat Milk Sherbet, and Wild-Foraged Berry Slab Pie!) and a few that we wouldn’t order again (sorry, Goat Cheese Marionberry Habanero and Besharam’s Yogurt Lassi with Raspberries). If any of these flavors sound like your jam, be sure to head to Salt & Straw this month to try them while they’re available!
