Rideshare services are readily available in Disney World, but one might be a bit more “magical” than the rest. We’re talking about Minnie Vans, which are Minnie Mouse-themed vehicles operated by Lyft that provide direct and private transportation around the Disney World resort.
When Disney World reopened, Minnie Vans did not return. We recently got an update about the service returning on June 29th and even saw some Minnie Vans in the wild, and now we’ve got another update!
It looks like you can now arrange a pick-up with a Minnie Van through the Lyft app (as Lyft operates the service). Today, when we looked at the Lyft app, we realized that Minnie Vans were showing as available!
We also noticed that on the page where you select what kind of Lyft you want, Minnie Vans are now listed again. We also got a price. At the time we looked, the estimated cost was $43.08 to take a Minnie Van from Magic Kingdom to Animal Kingdom. Good to know!
When searching for a Minnie Van option, be sure to carefully type in the addresses you want to be picked up from and be dropped off at. Placing “Disney” in front of the location (like “Disney Animal Kingdom”) sometimes seemed to help the system find things better and identify that it was a location on Disney property.
If the Minnie Van option doesn’t pop up when you first search, be sure to play around with the app and the names of the locations to see if you can ultimately have that Minnie Van option pop up.
So it seems like Minnie Vans have returned a little early. It’s likely this is a sort-of soft opening to test the service out as much as possible before the official reopening date of June 29th. So keep in mind that Minnie Vans may not be readily available for all of your Disney World transportation needs just yet. But if you’re eager to try the service, be sure to check the Lyft app for the option.
Is a Minnie Van for you? That depends! Disney World offers its share of FREE transportation options, but some can be limited (for example, you can’t easily travel from one hotel to another). You can schedule a regular rideshare service to get you places, but keep in mind that Minnie Vans will provide up to two car seats at no additional charge, which can be a help for parties with small kiddos. The service can also haul up to six people at one time (generally).
Additionally, Minnie Van drivers are Disney World Cast Members that can answer your Disney World questions as you get from point A to point B.
But, the Minnie Van service is a paid service, meaning you’ll have to shell out some cash to use it. If you prefer to stick to free transportation, or simply would feel better using your own rental car, those are other options you’ve got too!
We’ll let you know if we learn more about the return of Minnie Vans, along with all other Disney news, so stay tuned to DFB for more!
