REVIEW: Goofy Is FINALLY Getting the Respect He Deserves in Disney World

When it comes to snacking around Disney World, we like to think we’re experts.

Things sure do get Goofy in Disney World

We’ve tried it all — from Pineapple Lumpia at Pongu Pongu in Disney’s Animal Kingdom to the Wookie Cookie from Backlot Express in Hollywood Studios. On a recent trip to Magic Kingdom, though, we stumbled upon a dessert we hadn’t seen on the menu before — so we decided to try it out!

Gaston’s Tavern is a popular spot for many guests to grab a snack in Magic Kingdom — we especially love their giant WARM Cinnamon Roll (pro-tip: order a side of extra icing, you can thank us later!). We stopped by recently to see if there was anything new on the menu, and we lucked out — the Goofy Dome Cake is now being served at this Fantasyland spot.

It’s a dark chocolate mousse with orange curd and candied orange peel on top of chocolate flourless cake.

First things first, you kinda have to like the texture of mousse to enjoy this dessert. With that being said, the dark chocolate mousse was light in texture, flavorful, and not too sweet — which ended up being a good thing as the orange curd in the center was on the sweeter side.

Luckily, there was also a nice tartness from the citrus as well, and we could really taste the orange peel and zest — no artificial tasting flavors in sight.

The orange glaze that coated the dome didn’t add much and started to melt in the heat along with the mousse, so we’d recommend finding a place inside to enjoy this dome cake or eating it quickly.

It melted quickly!

At $8.29, it’s a bit on the pricey side for the size of the desert, and we wouldn’t deem it shareable. If you love dark chocolate oranges, you just might like the Goofy Dome Cake — but fair warning, this dessert is extremely rich so if you’re looking for something on the lighter side this isn’t it.

For something light and refreshing in Magic Kingdom, head over to Aloha Isle Refreshments to pick up a Dole Whip or one of its many variations. We also love the Nutella Fruit Waffle Sandwich from Sleepy Hollow Refreshments for something a bit more filling.
