Pixar’s Lightyear is going to infinity — and BEYOND!

The movie is in theaters NOW, and you can get tickets right here. There is also a ton of fun merchandise available, like new Minnie ears, action figures, a collectible key, and more. But, is the movie any good? Well, if the box office numbers are any indication, then YES!
Lightyear brought in $5.2 million in box office previews before officially opening today (June 17th), according to The Hollywood Reporter. It was previewed in more than 4,200 theaters across North America.

Tracking suggests that Lightyear could secure an opening weekend gross of $70 to $85 million at the domestic box office, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They say Disney and Pixar are counting on Father’s Day to bring families into theaters. The movie will serve as a test for the strength of the family marketplace in the pandemic era, and it’s also the first Pixar film to return to the big screen since the pandemic began.

Chris Evans plays Buzz Lightyear, while other members of the cast include Taika Waititi, Keke Palmer, Uzo Aduba, and more.
The premise of the movie has confused a few people though. Basically, Lightyear is the movie Andy would have watched in theaters in the Toy Story universe. That’s why he wants a Buzz Lightyear toy — because it’s from the movie he loves!

Lightyear is either out or will be coming out soon in theaters around the world. But, there are some places where the movie has been banned, like in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, because of a same-gender kiss in the movie. Disney has refused to edit the movie differently for these markets.

It will be interesting to see how Lightyear does in theaters since it’s the first Pixar movie to make it back to the big screen since the pandemic began. Other Pixar movies, like Soul, Luca, and Turning Red, have gone straight to Disney+. So, if Lightyear does well, hopefully that means more Pixar movies will be debuting in theaters again!
