Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Basics

Before we dive into the easter eggs, we just wanted to give you a quick rundown on the Guardians of the Galaxy Ride.

The coaster (which is actually one of the LONGEST indoor roller coasters ever built) puts you right at the center of a Guardians of the Galaxy adventure where you have to save the galaxy…again!

You’ll start your adventure by going through the Galaxarium. That’s a planatarium-like exhibit. There, you’ll get the chance to learn a bit about the differences and similarities between Xandar and Earth.

Then you’ll get to learn about some of the wonders of Xander, their technology, and more throughout other parts of the queue.

Part of the Queue

Just as your tour is about to come to an end, things get…interesting. Turns out an evil villain, a Celestial named Eson the Searcher, has been watching earth for a while and wants to “right a wrong in a big way.”

Eson

It’s up to you and the Guardians of the Galaxy to go on an urgent mission to save the world!

Wait…What?!

The coaster has a reverse launch, uses an omnicoaster system, and has lots more to enjoy. Recently, we got to experience the ride during a media preview event. It will officially be open on May 27th, 2022.

But, enough about the big stuff — let’s get into the little things — the Easter Eggs!

Easter Eggs!

1 — EPCOT Throwback

During the “Good Morning Xandar” pre-show portion in the ride queue (this is located in the Xandar Gallery), Star-Lord reminisces on EPCOT of the past.

Listen carefully and you’ll hear Star-Lord (also known as Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt) talk about how excited he is to visit classic EPCOT from the 1980s!

Star-Lord loves EPCOT!

He references several defunct EPCOT attractions, including Horizons, Universe of Energy, and the “Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit” song from Kitchen Kabaret. He may be in for some disappointment. Who is going to break it to him?

2 — Walt Disney and Progress City

Also in the queue, you can catch a glimpse of Walt Disney with an original schematic for Progress City.

You’ll also find a Xandarian City model in the queue which takes some inspiration from Disney’s Progress City model.

Some of the Model

You can actually see a model of Progress City if you take a ride on the PeopleMover in Magic Kingdom!

3 — Hidden Mickey

There’s also a hidden Mickey in the Xandarian City model! You may need some eagle eyes to find it.

There it is! Look behind some of the skyscrapers to find the blue hidden Mickey.

If you find any more hidden Mickeys once the ride officially opens, let us know!

4 — Maelstrom Reference

In the queue, there was also a reference to Maelstrom, the dark ride in the Norway pavilion that was closed and replaced by Frozen Ever After. It appears as an “energy schematic.”

Maelstrom!

Maelstrom closed a number of years ago and it’s still missed by many EPCOT fans, so this is a tribute we think quite a few people will be pleased to see!

Why you might not be able to ride Cosmic Rewind on opening day.

5 — Universe of Energy Reference

We noticed some throwbacks to the Universe of Energy pavilion and Ellen’s Energy Adventure, like on this column in the ride. The top left says Ellen, the top right says Alex, the bottom left says E=MC squared, and the bottom right says dino.

Can you see it?

In case you didn’t know, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is now housed in the building that was once the Universe of Energy pavilion and Ellen’s Energy Adventure. What a fitting tribute!

6 — Universe of Energy Theme Song

You can also hear a bit of what sounds like an electric guitar version of the old Universe of Energy theme song as the Guardians “fly” into space. Listen for when the Celestial says “What is that noise?” at around 18 seconds and you’ll hear it!

Anyone else singing, “Feel the flow, here we go, through the Universe of Energy…

7 — Schematics — XYX Axis

After the second pre-show, you get a look at the ship schematics, and you might be able to spot some fun references!

On the bottom right you can see the Universe of Energy symbol

…and this is the partial Xandarian alphabet!

See it?

We kinda want to learn Xandarian now!

8 — Script changes

At the end of your ride, there’s a part during which the Guardians welcome you back to EPCOT. So far, we know about a few different scripts you may hear while the Guardians are talking to each other!

During one version you might hear them say, “Welcome to EPCOAT.” And a response: “I think it’s EPCOT.”

Or you might hear them note “Welcome to EPCOT.” With one asking, “Is that even a word?” And then the perfect response “Yeah! It means every person comes out tired.”
