We’re constantly talking about the things changing in the Disney theme parks…but what about Disney Cruise Line?

Disney Dream

As cruising gains popularity again, things are slowly returning to normal for Disney cruises, with special sailings, discounts, and changing health and safety requirements. On top of that, the highly anticipated Disney Wish ship sets sail for the first time this summer! There’s a lot happening in the world of Disney Cruise Line news, and if you weren’t watching closely, you may have missed some BIG announcements and changes in the past several days.

Testing Requirements

First up on our list of Disney Cruise Line news — the COVID-19 testing requirements have changed for passengers! Guests sailing on the Disney Cruise Line from ports in the United States or Canada after June 7th, 2022, will now be required to obtain their own COVID-19 test prior to embarkation day.

This applies to all passengers regardless of vaccine eligibility or status, however, non-vaccine eligible guests (those ages 4 and under) will need to take a second COVID-19 test at the terminal before boarding. All test results must be uploaded to the Safe Passage website by midnight the day before boarding.

Here’s what the website says about these changes: “For sailings departing US and Canadian ports on or after June 7, 2022, fully vaccinated Guests who upload their pre-trip test results to the Safe Passage website by midnight prior to embarkation day will be exempt from embarkation testingAll other fully vaccinated Guests must be tested at the terminal before boarding and will be charged for the cost of the test.”

The cost for these tests ranges from $74 to $125. Previously, Disney Cruise Line paid for testing on embarkation day for guests.

Policy Changes

If you’re heading on a cruise, it might be a good idea to invest in the Disney Cruise Line Vacation Protection Plan. This week, some changes were made to the Accident/Sickness Medical section of the policy, where guests can now be covered for up to $20,000 for hospitalization, medical treatment, and more if they become sick or injured during their vacation. The cost of this plan is 8% of your voyage fare per guest, so the actual number will vary depending on your cruise price.

Disney Cruise Line

In addition to changes with the insurance, Disney Cruise Line has extended the final payment and booking flexibility deadlines. What does that mean for you? Well, for all cruises sailing on or before September 30th, 2022, guests can change their sail date for their Disney cruise up to 15 days prior to the ship’s departure. If you need to move your cruise, you can change it to any date before September 30th, 2023.

And as far as final payments go, for all sailings through December 31st, 2022, guests can make their final payments up to 60 days prior to sailing. (That applies to all guests booked in unrestricted stateroom categories.) But for guests sailing from a non-US port on the Disney Wonder from April 21st through May 30th, 2022, and aboard the Disney Magic from May 8th through June 27th, 2022, the final payment deadline is extended to 30 days before sailing.

Keep in mind that the cancelation fee schedule was also previously relaxed, so cancelation fees only apply if you cancel less than 59 days from departure through December 31st, 2022. These changes are definitely important to take note of if you’re sailing soon!
