Today is May 4th, which means it’s time to celebrate all things Star Wars!
Alaska Airlines and Disneyland Resort came together to develop a brand new Star Wars-themed aircraft, which they revealed today for Star Wars Day! This is Alaska’s seventh painted plane for Disneyland, and its official name is “Star Wars Transport to the Disneyland Resort.”
The aircraft was designed by teams at Alaska, Lucasfilm, and Disneyland, and with a “space black” painted background, it features hand-painted imagery like the Millennium Falcon and TIE fighters battling on the tail.
Porgs can be seen by passengers on both winglets, as well as at the boarding door. For this design, artists needed 228 gallons of paint with 23 different base colors for the custom artwork. It took 540 hours over 27 days to complete the look!
You can see the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Disneyland Resort logos in the center, and there are four TIE Fighters in total on the sides. This aircraft is already in flight on various Alaska Airlines routes, and today guests wearing Star Wars-themed clothing will be invited to board their flight early!
This plan is expected to fly for approximately eight years so who knows — maybe your next Alaska Airlines flight will be on this one-of-a-kind aircraft. Keep following DFB for more Disney news!
