9 BIG Construction Projects Happening in Disney World This Week

It’s no secret that wherever you look in Disney World, things are constantly changing.

Spaceship Earth

We recently got to experience Connections Cafe and Eatery for the very first time, and we even got the chance to go on EPCOT’s newest thrill ride ahead of its official opening (SPOILER: it’s awesome!). But, that’s not all the change we’re currently seeing around the parks, so let’s take a look at the Disney World construction updates from this week!

Magic Kingdom

TRON: Lightcycle Run

Workers are busy clearing out more dirt and making room for additional concrete to eventually be laid on the ground at this ride!

That’s progress!

And, it looks like the canopy is completely finished — we can even see some of the interior structure below as well!

Can you see it?

We haven’t spotted any active testing of the ride on our most recent visit, so stay tuned for updates on when we might actually get to experience this attraction!

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

We won’t spoil anything for you here, but you can head over to our FULL review if you want to know what we thought!

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY!

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind officially opens on May 27th, with Passholder, DVC, and D23 Member previews happening in the coming weeks.

Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana

Last week, we saw the very first rock formations being added to the construction zone that will eventually be EPCOT’s Moana attraction…

Big things are happening, people!

… and we’re seeing more and more of those rocks take shape! We also got some updated concept art from Disney that shows more details on the exploration trails.

Toy Story Mania Gift Shop

The Toy Story Mania Gift Shop has been closed for quite some time now, and Disney is still staying quiet on exactly what is going to take its place.

For now, guests are still being directed through a detour upon exiting this popular attraction.

Guests are still being re-routed.

And, there’s also a walkway area blocked off by construction walls on the Yacht Club Resort pool entrance side.

We’re not sure exactly what sort of refurbishments are taking place here, but we’ll keep an eye out for additional details.

The Big Pine Key building at Disney’s Grand Floridian resort is currently being transformed into new DVC Villas, and crews are still working on removing the staircases.

Grand Flo isn’t the only resort that’s being updated, either! Over at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, we’re starting to see the initial construction begin on what will eventually become brand-new villas.

Walt Disney World Swan Reserve Hotel

The newest hotel to open on Disney property, the Swan Reserve, is undergoing a bit of refurb as well — but just on the pool area.
