NEWS: You CAN’T Re-Ride Disney World Attractions with Genie+

Earlier this year, Disney announced that FastPass+ would be going away and new, paid FastPass-like systems would be taking its place.

The new, paid Genie+ service, along with Individual Attraction Selection, will become guests’ new ways to skip the lines at their favorite rides. We’ve already shared a bunch of information about these systems, but now we’ve got an update about how particular aspect of Genie+ will operate.

What is Disney Genie?

First, let’s go through a quick break-down of just what Genie+ is. Genie+ will let guests bypass the standby lines at select attractions in Disney World. The base price for Genie+ is $20 per day per ticket at Disneyland Resort and $15 per day per ticket at Disney World.

With Disney Genie+, you’ll be able to select return times for the attractions you want to visit, 1 ride at a time. Essentially, you will make your selection, wait for your return time for that ride to arrive, visit the attraction during the designated time — during which you’ll be able to use that ride’s Lightning Lane (a.k.a. the old FastPass+ lane) and skip the standby line. Again, you’ll only be able to make a Genie+ ride selection for 1 ride at a time.

Pirates Lightning Lane

So far, Disney has shared that over 40 attractions in Disney World will be included as part of Genie+. We previously heard directly from Disney via a media call that Genie+ would include attractions like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, and Haunted Mansion.

Spaceship Earth

Select popular attractions will NOT be available through Genie+, however. Instead, to skip the standby lanes at those popular rides, you’ll have to pay to utilize each ride’s Lightning Lane individually through Individual Attraction Selection. Guests will only be able to make a maximum of 2 Individual Attraction Selections each day.

Attractions that Disney has indicated will be available through Individual Attraction Selection include Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom, Radiator Springs Racers at Disney California Adventure Park, Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Web Slingers in Disney California Adventure park, and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in EPCOT.

Re-Riding Rides

Alright, so that’s the basics of Genie+. Now, let’s get to the update. According to a Disney Cast Member we spoke to during a media preview event Disney held earlier today, guests will NOT be able to re-ride attractions through Genie+.

This was specifically noted in relation to Genie+ — again, this is the service you’ll pay $15 for per day at Disney World to make return time selections at over 40 rides in Disney World, 1 at a time throughout the day.

Lightning Lane Entrance ©Disney

Essentially, what this means is that you won’t be able to make more than 1 Genie+ Lightning Lane selection for a ride on any 1 day. If you want to ride Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Haunted Mansion, and then Buzz again, you’ll only be able to make a Genie+ selection for 1 of those Buzz rides.

You won’t be able to get a Lightning Lane Genie+ selection for Buzz twice during the same day. To ride it a second time, you’ll have to utilize the standby lane (of course, you can go through the standby lane as many times as you want, without any kind of limit).

©Disney

Now, this is what the Cast Members indicated to us today during the media preview event we attended. But, it seems like this is a fluid situation. It is possible that things could change prior to the launch of Genie+.

Right now, Disney Genie is set to launch this fall and we expect Genie+ and Individual Attraction Selection will launch with it. We’ll be on the lookout for more updates and we’ll let you know what we find.

Disney World’s Birthday Cake Castle is Coming Back…Sort Of

There are a lot of exciting things happening at Disney World for the 50th Anniversary!

Cinderella Castle is all dolled up!

We’ve got new entertainment, new merchandise, new fireworks, new attractions, new snacks...SO many things are new! But later this fall when Disney Genie+ launches at Disney World, a very OLD photo op will be returning to Magic Kingdom.

Disney Genie+ is the replacement for Disney’s formerly free FastPass+ system. Genie+ will cost $15 per ticket, per day at Disney World and include access to skip the wait for certain attractions with the new Lightning Lanes around the parks. Also included in the cost of Genie+ at WDW are “Disney parks-themed audio experiences and photo features to capture your memories — augmented reality lenses for those visiting Walt Disney World Resort.”

©Disney

We hadn’t received many more details about these new photo experiences until today, but now we know that one of the photo options will be a background of the 25th Anniversary birthday cake-themed Cinderella Castle. That’s right, a Cast Member confirmed to us today that you can take pictures in front of the cake castle again, just like it’s 1996!

We can’t wait to check out this filter in action when it launches with Disney Genie+ this fall. We’ll make sure to keep you updated on all the Disney World news!

Tomorrow is Disney World’s 50th anniversary, and Disney is celebrating in style with an 18-month long event.

Happy 50th Everyone!

The excitement for this big day is growing in Disney World today, and we even spotted a Disney guest wearing a very special dress. Disney World guests often love to find ways to embrace the Disney magic through self-expression, and this dress is a beautiful start to this big celebration!

Today we found Amaya Duncan (@amayacandream on Instagram) looking quite regal in her special 50th anniversary dress! It was a lovely shade of purple with iridescent details. We see Cinderella Castle and even a Cast Member shaped name tag!

So pretty!

And the gold trim is made of Disney icons like the Partners Statue, and could it perhaps have all 50 of the gold 50th anniversary statues? We see Dumbo, Chip n’ Dale, R2-D2, the Cheshire Cat, and more!

The gold trim!

We have a feeling we’ll be seeing even more guests celebrating Disney World’s 50th anniversary in all kinds of unique ways in the next few days, so stick with DFB for all the 50th anniversary coverage and news this week!

PHOTOS: What Disney Genie Will Look Like on Your Phone

Disney announced last month that a new planning program would be coming to the My Disney Experience app in Disney World called Disney Genie.

©Disney

Genie is free and is designed to be used as a planning tool that is supposed to make your time at Disney World easier. It will have features like custom itineraries, forecasted wait times, and a virtual assistant. It’s scheduled to launch this fall, however, we do not have an official date yet. But today, we DID get a look at what Genie will look like when you’re using it on your phone!

During a media event today, we saw a demonstration of what Disney Genie will look like on your phone. This demonstration was only for Disney Genie, not Genie+ or the Individual Attraction Selections — the parts of the program that cost money.

Welcome page

In the new program, you’ll get to choose your park interests

Tell Genie what you like

…and your Disney favorites.

Genie wants to know everything you love at Disney

You can even choose your “Top Picks” of attractions, entertainment, and dining locations. This is supposed to help Genie give you better suggestions based on what you enjoy.

Top Picks

If you switch over to your tip board, Genie will show you what’s going on with your Top Picks.

Genie keeps everything organized

It will also show you the next available reservation times and the walk-up list time for the restaurants in your Top Picks.

Way more convenient than asking the host at the restaurant!

Then, you can switch over to the “My Day” section to see your plans for the day all in one place.

Loading…

It will show you the park hours for the park you have a park pass for, the hotel you’re staying at (if you’re staying on Disney property), your park pass, and, if you’re using Genie+, the Lightning Lane attraction you have scheduled.

Genie “My Day” Section

This is also where you’ll find the dining reservations you have scheduled for the day.

Don’t forget your reservation!

In this section will also be where Genie Recommendations will “fly” in, like this example showing which ride you should go on next. It tells you the best time to go to that ride and the forecasted wait time!

Where to next?

You can also see recommendations for dining locations and when the next mobile order window is available.

Hungry?

And, there are some filters that come with the app to use on your camera, like this one that turns you into Genie. Honestly, it’s kind of terrifying!

No thank you!

Hopefully the other filters will look less scary. We’ll keep you updated with more about Disney Genie, so stay tuned to DFB for news!
