NEW ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ Artwork Debuts at Downtown Disney

In case you missed it, there’s a brand new Disney character in town, and her name is Raya!

That’s right — Raya and the Last Dragon premiered TODAY on Disney+ and we can’t wait to watch it! We’ve already seen Raya and her crew making appearances on merch, and there’s also a gorgeous sand sculpture at Disney’s Animal Kingdom dedicated to the movie.

And for those of you on the West Coast, there’s a brand new Raya and the Last Dragon art installation at Downtown Disney! It was designed by Imagineer Xiao Qing Chen, who was born and raised in Malaysia. The piece is inspired by Batik, a form of fabric design from the Southeast Asian region that uses waxes, dyes, and stamps. And you guys — it is STUNNING.

Qing, who has also done work for the Castle of Magical Dreams at Hong Kong Disneyland, the Incredicoaster at Disney California Adventure, and the new Disney Cruise Line ships, said about the piece: “I hope it helps everyone choose to embrace differences. I believe if we are willing to take the first step to drop judgements and trust and learn about those around us, we will come together to create a more compassionate future.”

If you want to see it for yourself, head to Downtown Disney! You can also get deluxe prints, as well as Art on Demand, for Qing’s art at WonderGround Gallery. And we’ll let you know if we see any other cool Raya artwork at Disney Parks!
