Non-Perishable Food to Bring on Your Disney Vacation That Travels Well in Your Suitcase

If you’re planning a visit to the Walt Disney World Resort during hurricane season,  it is very important to note that you should not rely solely on Disney to take care of you and your family throughout the storm with regards to food and water. Guests who come to Walt Disney World prepared with some of their own food in case the resort loses power or are confined to their rooms in case of an emergency will be able to manage their own needs far better than being dependent on Disney.

Since Tropical Storm Gonzalo is expected to become the first hurricane of the 2020 season, we have some suggestions on non-perishable foods that travel very well in your suitcase:

Tortillas: Bring several packages of them as they hardly take up any room and you can make them into roll-up sandwiches really easily right in your hotel room.

Peanut (or any nut-free) Butter: While the jars can take up more room than just about everything else on this list of recommendations, it travels well and will fill you up quickly should you need it.

Craisins or other dried fruit: Craisins along with most other dried fruit come in resealable bags and will keep well in your room. Our family uses Craisins to make peanut butter and Craisin tortilla roll-ups; a modified PB&J and they’re not messy at all. Eat a couple of those and you’ll be set. Another tip about these is that they travel really well in a backpack if you are going to be out in the parks.

Instant Oatmeal Packets: Take these out of the boxes they come in and stuff the packets in all the extra spaces in your suitcase. If worse comes to worst and you cannot get access to hot water, you can mix them up with bottled water and have something hearty to eat, even if it’s cold.

Goldfish Crackers: Buy a couple of those big cartons of them and dump them into gallon-sized Ziploc bags – this makes them easy to fit around clothes in your suitcase and will keep them fresh. Besides, who doesn’t love these crunchy, cheesy snacks?

Granola Bars: Granola bars, Power bars, or anything along those lines are always great to have to “fill in the cracks” between meals. Bring your favorites and plenty of them.

Tuna/Chicken Salad Packets: These are great if you are able to finish a whole packet between a few people as they don’t require refrigeration until after they’ve been opened.

Throw in a pack of plastic cutlery, paper bowls, and some sandwich-size Ziploc bags and you’ll be good to go.

You might need to plan on taking an extra suitcase with you in order to bring food, but I will say that paying the luggage fee on your flight will be far less expensive than arriving at Walt Disney World unprepared.
