California Says That Theme Parks Can Reopen When State Reaches Stage 3

According to recent information from the state of California, Disneyland and other theme parks are now part of Stage 3 of its roadmap for reopening the state. Theme parks were initially thought to be included in Stage 4, along with nightclubs, concert venues, and live sports.

Kate Folmar, with the California Health and Human Services Agency, spoke with the Orange County Register, saying:

Theme parks are slated to open in Stage 3 if the rate of spread of COVID-19 and hospitalizations remain stable.

The science and data of how COVID-19 hospitalizations are progressing, how prepared hospitals are for increased cases and whether hospitals have adequate personal protective equipment will guide when the state enters stage 3.

The California Department of Public Health will issue detailed guidance with suggested modifications for how to minimize the risk of COVID-19 spread when theme parks reopen.

Stage 3 also includes salons, gyms, theaters, and sporting events without audiences.

While a date has not been set for when Stage 3 will begin, Governor Gavin Newsom has said recently that the state could be to Stage 3 in June.

Over the weekend, Orange County, which is home to the Disneyland Resort, moved to Stage 2, allowing in-restaurant dining and shopping centers to reopen.
