Captain Eo’s Magic Eye Theater at Disneyland has been showcasing an exclusive 17 minute long trailer from the film Tomorrowland. This film stars George Clooney, Britt Robertson, Hugh Laurie, Tim McGraw, Keegan-Michael Key, Thomas Robinson, Raffey Cassidy and opens this May 22nd.
Story-line: “Brad Bird’s “Tomorrowland,” a mystery – adventure starring Academy Award winner George Clooney. Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright and optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world, and them, forever.”
This sneak peak showed some of the background to the story about Frank and his ‘Jetpack’ invention. The 10 year old (Thomas Robinson) takes his home-made Jetpack to the 1964 New York worlds fair where Hugh Laurie is looking to buy some great inventions. Unfortunately Frank is turned down, but is befriended by Laurie’s young daughter Athena (Raffey Cassidy), who sees something special in the young boy. She also seems to be from a world different than New York in 1964.
The move poster shows Frank as a boy (Thomas Robinson) and as an adult (George Clooney). Note the Easter Egg Space Mountain in the distance.
Tucked in the arcade area by Space Mountain’s exit is a small exhibit about the film. It features some film props, costumes, and concept artworks.
The first thing you will notice is this orb on a futuristic pedestal. Placed in the middle of the room it gets plenty of looks, and it is the only prop that is not described. What a mystery!
There are just two costumes, one is a Jetpack Suit from 1984 (twenty years after the N.Y. Worlds Fair), and a Lady’s Spacesuit. A carbon-fiber Jetpack is also displayed.
But the best part of this exhibit has to be the concept artwork. Here you really get a feeling of what Brad Bird’s concept of what Tomorrowland will be like.
