According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating a recent rash of burglaries at Walt Disney World’s Old Key West Resort and Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa.
In the last two months there have been more than 20 cases of electronics stolen including iPhones, laptops and iPads. According to a sheriff’s report the burglars obtained access through rear sliding-glass doors.
Last month, sheriff’s deputies arrested Jake Loren Blair, 25, and Minoska Guillen, 19, both of Orlando, on burglary and grand theft charges. They were spotted trying to get into a Saratoga Springs room through a French door on the ground floor.
The pair’s actions and the electronics they had on hand were “consistent with nearly every other burglary occurring at the Saratoga Springs Resort,” the sheriff’s report said. An investigation into the multiple Saratoga Springs burglaries is “still active and open,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Jane Watrel said. “They’re looking at these suspects for these cases.” No burglaries were reported since the pair’s arrest.
Disney said it has worked closely with law enforcement throughout the investigation and has additional security patrols in place. Disney has also worked with its housekeeping team to be sure patio doors that may have been left unlocked by guests were locked, and literature has been left in the rooms to remind guests of the importance of locking doors and securing valuables.
