Aulani Resort Construction Update

If you didn’t know, Aulani Resort is currently expanding its facilities. When finished, there will be a themed family pool featuring an infinity edge, a misty grotto with an after-dark glittering lights experience, along with a Keiki (kids’) splash zone. Additional deck space, chairs, chaises and cabanas will surround the new water features. They have not published an opening date for these new additions.

This is the new construction gate with a graphic showing an artists rendering of what this new area will look like.

In this close-up you can see the new Keiki interactive pool & fountain area and on the upper right the “Misty Grotto” pool.

Construction continues on the new food service facility (no name yet) on the west side of the Wailana Bar (thatched roof) and Wailana Pool (the blue pool behind it).

Here you can see the pit that was dug for the Keiki interactive fountain area. Behind it, where the two orange backhoes are working, is the Grotto area.

Here is a closer look at the Keiki interactive fountain area. You can see vertical white pipes coming up from a deeper excavation. You can also see the remnant of the earlier construction fence pointing in the direction it was, before it was moved to its present location to the left.

This is the Grotto area. The construction crew is excavating part of the pool. You can see two blue hardhats working in the pit while the backhoe is digging away. You can also see the rockwork steel has been erected and installed to its concrete foundation. The rockwork cages will be attached to the small angle iron tabs that are welded to tubular box beams.

  1. My family and I will be at Aulani the beginning of June as was wondering if any of the improvements would be completed.

  2. Heard the Cabanas have been greatly affected by the construction…no surprise but hoping to have ours that has been reserved available…any word there?

  3. We are planning a trip in August. Which areas should we NOT stay in so that we can avoid construction noise? Any recommendations for villas vs. regular rooms for family of 4?

    1. The construction noise is minimal right now. If you don’t want to not hear anything I would recommend getting a room in the Ewa side of the Ewa tower. The downside is there is no ocean or pool views. As for room size, if your family includes 2 children, the regular room is fine. If it is 4 adults I would go with the Parlor Suite (no villas here).

  4. Of all the enhancements/construction that Disney lists for Aulani..including improvements to the WAIKOLOHE VALLEY POOL AREA, DINING ADDITIONS, and improvements to BEACH VIEWS AND BEACHFRONT FOOD & you have any idea of what will be completed by July 24th 2013? thanks, June

    1. June, None of the areas that we have reported on in this story will be complete by July 24th. As we have noted in a later update, expect a opening at the end of September.
